Population
Edit
Population is the number of citizens you have in your castle or outpost. To read more about population, click the link in the above paragraph. This article will only cover the basics of population important to know if you are planning out at when you are upgrading your dwellings and adding new ones.
High Population: Benefits
Edit
Having a high population means that you will get more coins from the tax collector.
High Population: Downsides
Edit
One of the biggest problems often associated with having a high population is having a low Public order. This can decrease productivity, which in turn will decrease the amount of resources you can produce in a given amount of time. If you are currently going through a food shortage, this will shorten the amount of time you have left before your soldiers desert.
However, if you plan on doing nothing in the Storm Islands, you can get a fair number of dwellings quickly, thus increasing the taxes earned without affecting Public Order elsewhere.

Now, time to recheck those flanks......
